-Describe the content and evidence-based foundation of the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans
-Explain recommended levels of physical activity for identified population groups
-Begin preparing a plan or adopting strategies for incorporating or enhancing physical activity counseling as appropriate within their practices
-Identify community- and population-based public health programs and interventions promotion increased physical activity goals

Getting regular physical activity is also a key recommendation of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005

Dr. Pate was educated at Springfield College and the University of Oregon. In 1974 he joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina where he now serves as Professor in the Department of Exercise Science and Associate Vice President for Health Sciences.
