Public Policy and You

If food, nutrition and dietetics are part of your profession, then policy should be your passion.

The Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics members are experts in food, nutrition, and health working on a broad range of issues to advance the nutritional status of people in our state. There are many ways, key to our practice, by which Washington State Academy's over 1600 dietetics professionals are affected by public policy - and many opportunities to participate in the legislative process, both here in Washington State and in Washington, DC.

Registered dietitians have played key advocacy roles and have benefited from recent legislation in Washington State concerning trans fats, restaurant menu labeling, medical nutrition therapy, and school nutrition.

What’s Going On?
The Public Policy Panel keeps track of and plans activities around current state legislation and federal legislation.

WSAND President

Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

Welcome to the 2026-2027 membership year! As we look ahead, my focus is on strengthening the organizational structure of our Academy, supporting modernization and innovation within the field of dietetics, and fostering a strong, connected community of nutrition professionals across Washington.

This year, we hope to create more opportunities for collaboration, professional engagement, and meaningful connections at both the state and district levels. As our profession continues to evolve locally and nationally, we remain committed to supporting our members through education, advocacy, and community.

Please stay connected through our website, social media, and monthly e-blasts for updates, events, and opportunities to get involved. I am honored to serve in this role and look forward to working alongside all of you this year.
