A memorial for Elaine Ranker Monsen, PhD, RD, Professor Emeritus, School of Public Health, will be held on Sunday March 15th at 6pm at the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park.

Dr. Monsen is remembered as a journal editor, nutritionist, researcher, educator, civic leader, and art collector. During her tenure on the faculty of the University of Washington, Elaine reached across campus to create cross-disciplinary dialogue and debate about nutrition. She was Division Chair and Chair of the Nutrition Studies Committee, University of Washington Graduate School. She served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, 1983 – 2003, and continued as Editor Emeritus until her death, October 29, 2014. The Elaine Monsen Award for Research continues to be given annually by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation.

Donations in Elaine’s memory are welcomed the University of Washington’s Henry Art Gallery for the Monsen Lecture on Photography.

Elaine was a treasured member of the Washington State Academy for many years.
