Food Day Planning Is Gathering Momentum

A growing number of people and organizations nationwide, including American Dietetic Association members, are organizing activities in their workplaces, schools and communities to celebrate Food Day, to be held October 24. ADA’s Chief Executive Officer Patricia Babjak is a member of the Food Day Advisory Board and ADA is a Partner Organization.

The goal of Food Day is to “build a broad ‘real food’ movement of Americans who want healthy, affordable and delicious food produced in a sustainable and humane way.”

Information on how become involved in Food Day is available on the program’s website.
It contains a map that will show where events are taking place, a “Coordinator’s Guide” and a store with t-shirts, mugs and other items bearing the Food Day logo and drawings donated by New Yorker artist Edward Koren.

Food Day programs already planned or under way include:

The New York City food market Eataly is bringing in 20 farmers to its store on Food Day to talk to customers
Activities are being planned at the University of Vermont, Stanford, Yale, University of North Carolina and other schools
California activists are planning statewide policy advocacy efforts
Iowa sustainable agriculture advocates are organizing a national conference on how small and mid-sized farms can gain better access to markets.

ADA members are also encouraged to “like” Food Day at www.Facebook.com/FoodDayEatReal and use the #FoodDay hashtag to tweet your Food Day thoughts.

Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics

Welcome to the 2026-2027 membership year! As we look ahead, my focus is on strengthening the organizational structure of our Academy, supporting modernization and innovation within the field of dietetics, and fostering a strong, connected community of nutrition professionals across Washington.

This year, we hope to create more opportunities for collaboration, professional engagement, and meaningful connections at both the state and district levels. As our profession continues to evolve locally and nationally, we remain committed to supporting our members through education, advocacy, and community.

Please stay connected through our website, social media, and monthly e-blasts for updates, events, and opportunities to get involved. I am honored to serve in this role and look forward to working alongside all of you this year.
