Julie Larsen

Shaekira Niehuser, President

Shaekira is the clinical nutrition manager for Providence Inland Northwest Washington service area. Over the past year, she has helped Sacred Heart navigate the challenges of caring for patients and caregivers during the pandemic. She has been instrumental in helping Sacred Heart and other Providence organizations navigate infant and pediatric formula shortages resulting from supply chain disruptions and formula recalls. She has served on the GSDA board in various roles since 2014. As GSDA president, her goal is to grow member engagement and increase GSDA community involvement. In her free time, Shaekira enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering at All Saints Catholic School, and cheering on the Gonzaga basketball team.

Simone Pappalardo

Simone Pappalardo, President Elect

My name is Simone and am a new RD. I work as a clinical dietitian for Providence Infusion and Pharmacy Services. I graduated from the University of Alabama and completed my distance internship with Utah State University. I am a California native who has moved around a bit thanks to my military husband. Spokane has become our home indefinitely and I truly love this city. You can find me hiking, kayaking, or snowboarding depending on the season! Fun fact: I lived in Japan for 4 years and had the opportunity to shadow/volunteer with Navy dietitians. During this time, I also volunteered with the Red Cross and created monthly e-newsletters in addition to working local events. I'm so happy to be part of the GSDA board to communicate and advocate for the dietetic practice in our community.

Alison

Alison Fenske, Secretary

Hello, my name is Alison Fenske and this is my second year serving as the GSDA Secretary. I have been working as a Registered Dietitian for Chas Health since 2018. I was born and raised right here in Spokane and graduated from WSU with a Masters degree in Nutrition, Exercise Physiology and Dietetics. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, especially my husband and our son. Together we enjoy cooking, weightlifting, hiking, camping, SUP, gardening and road trips.

Sophie Kauffman

Sophie Kauffman, Treasurer

Sophie Kauffman is Clinical Nutrition Manager for Providence's Inland Northwest Washington Services Area, which includes Sacred Heart, Holy Family, Mt. Carmel and St. Joseph Hospitals--it has been one of the greatest privileges of her life to work with such a dedicated team of clinical dietitians! This is her fifth year serving on the GSDA Board, having started her service in 2017. Originally from the west side of Washington State, Sophie came to dietetics on a circuitous route through a Sociology degree with an emphasis in Public Health, the culinary arts, and subsequent work with both the City of Seattle and the WA State Department of Health on food access initiatives at Washington State's farmers markets. She completed her Masters degree at the University of Washington, graduating in 2016 and moving straight away to Spokane to begin as a Critical Care per diem at Sacred Heart Medical Center. Sophie lives with her husband, two fur babies (Dean & Biscuit), and two chickens (Dolly & Loretta). In her free time she enjoys hiking, running, cycling, climbing, yoga, cooking, and making art.

Her passion is nutrition support and creating long lasting relationships with her patients. In her free time, she likes trying new restaurants, spending time with her husband and two kids, and of course drinking lots of coffee!

Tina Dobrowski

Tina Dobrowski, Communications Chair

Hello, I am Tina Dobrowski, MS, RD. I’ve been an RD since graduating from the WSU MS, CDP, NEP program here in Spokane, WA in 2021.  I’m currently working in the role of Clinical Nutrition Director of three Regency Pacific buildings in Spokane, Kennewick, and Omak, where I am responsible for supporting residents in their recovery from injury and illness, as well as optimizing the nutritional status of those unable to return to independent living.  I have previously held the role of Legislative chair of the GSDA, and I am so excited to take on my new position of Communications chair. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three fur babies, caring for and managing our honeybee hives, gardening, kayaking, skiing, spinning, and practicing Pilates.

Sarah Hader

Sarah Hader, Scholarship & Nominating Chair

I’m Sarah and I have an MS RD from WSU Spokane. I love people; young and old I love talking to folks about nutrition. I dispel myths, suggest meals, and review supplement with a person-centered quality of life approach. My day job is at Rockwood Retirement Communities where I have a broad range of duties including medical nutrition therapy for our on-site skilled nursing facility, specialty menu planning and distribution to 6 health center dining room, and wellness care for our independent living residents. In my spare time, I’m a wife & mother. My son is super into sports which lead me to discover a passion for youth sports nutrition. I volunteer for his teams and many local organizations to do sports nutrition education for youth of all ages. I love working with these kids and their coaches/families because they are so motivated by sports that they are receptive to the information and I tend to catch kids at a critical period (10-12 yo) of physical development where high quality nutrition is uniquely effective at growing a strong muscular/skeletal system which has been shown to prevent injury and burnout later in their sports careers.
