Pediatric Nutrition Training
Nutrition Network for Children with Special Health Care Needs
For registered dietitians/nutritionists who want additional training related to children with special health care needs (CSHCN), the Washington State Department of Health Healthy Starts and Transitions Unit offers a 2-day intensive training at no cost. Trainings typically take place in Seattle, WA. Participants are kept to 10-12 individuals . Priority selection is given to dietitians/nutritionists who regularly see children with special health care needs and to those who work in geographical areas with limited access to specialized nutrition services. The training is intended for individuals who anticipate providing direct services for these children. Administration support from the applicant's place of work to attend this training, participate in future training opportunities, and support for ongoing provision of services for CSHCN is essential.
Completing the training entitles the dietitian/nutritionist to be part of the CSHCN Nutrition Network. The Network meets annually for continuing education event and networking. We also sponsor a yearly webinar for continuing education. CPEUs are available for these events. In addition, members are part of a listserve that provides additional information and opportunities related to CSHCN.

Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disorders (LEND)

The LEND program provides long-term, graduate level, interdisciplinary training in providing family-centered, culturally/linguistically competent care. The purpose of the LEND training program is to improve the health of infants, children, and adolescents with disabilities. They accomplish this by preparing trainees from diverse professional disciplines to assume leadership roles in their respective fields and by insuring high levels of interdisciplinary clinical competence.

Pediatric Pulmonary Center (PPC)
University of Washington
The PPC program is a Maternal Child Health Bureau-funded training program with a mission to develop leaders who will improve the health of children with respiratory conditions. Trainees learn to work as an interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings including the NICU, outpatient pulmonary clinic, and community birth-to-three centers. Along with developing clinical expertise, trainees are challenged to adopt a systems perspective on patient care and to advocate for patient access to care.
Nutrition trainees must be an RDN or be enrolled in a dietetic internship program and have or be actively pursuing a graduate degree in nutrition. For more information, visit the University of Washington PPC website.
Leadership Education in Adolescent Health (LEAH)
University of Washington
The UW LEAH program is dedicated to training future leaders in adolescent health in key adolescent health disciplines including nutrition. Fellows participate in mentored clinical and research training experiences and receive advanced training in interdisciplinary practice and leadership skills. The one-year fellowship in nutrition are available to Nutritional Sciences students, Registered Dietitan-eligible MPH students, and community RDs with specific interest in working with adolescents.
