January 2022- "Eating to Save the Planet: the Role of the RDN"

With the growing concerns around environmental degradation and climate change, the role that the RDN can plan in promoting a more sustainable food system is as important as ever. Numerous reports have determined that how we currently grow, produce, and waste food are contributing factors to the environmental crisis, but may also be part of the solution. Many of these issues around sustainability have human health implications as well, making dietitians perfectly positioned to be an integral part of the conversation.

This presentation outlines the impacts of our surrent food system on the environment from production to consumption, highlight programs working towards effective advances, and provide realistic ways dietitians can make a difference in their workplaces, communitite, and a variety of other unconventional avenues to encourage dietary habits that are both environmentally sustainable and health-promoting. Participants will walk away with big picture concepts, resources for further education, and practical tools that will support a sustainable, resillient, and equitable food system to improve both planitary and human health.
