The Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) has switched to a paperless system for prior approval of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) activities.
All Activities and their supporting materials are now submitted directly to the CDR Database by the organizations contact, and then reviewed by our affiliate reviewer online. Activity verifications are generated by the CDR CPE Database.
Supporting documents that you will upload include:
- Event timing, including time spent for registration, introductions and breaks. It is sufficient to send the program brochure if it includes this information.
- Learning objectives
- Brief speaker info/bio/CV related to topics presented. Please provide speaker information indicating why the speaker is qualified to speak on the assigned topic.
Learn more and review the prior approval CPEU Guidelines here.
*Note that the Washington State Academy reviews/approves "live," in-person events within Washington State. Virtual events are reviewed by CDR (and will incur a fee paid to CDR). If you have questions about this, email us.
New info (8/2020): CDR is changing the way CPE is calculated (going to a 1/4 hour increment). Learn about that here.
Submit the information at least 4-6 weeks in advance.
The Commission on Dietetic Registration has revised the current continuing professional education approval criteria to require that all continuing professional education activity types addressing diet and nutrition topics (excluding academic coursework), must include an RD or DTR in program planning. This policy change is effective for continuing professional activities offered on or after June 1, 2018 and for CDR credentialed practitioners recertifying beginning a new recertification cycle on or after June 2, 2018.
Continuing Professional Education—Ethics
At its October 2018 meeting the Commission established the following policy effective January 1, 2019: all continuing professional education providers (CDR Accredited providers, and those seeking prior approval) will submit all ethics related activities (e.g., self-study, webinars, live lecture/seminars) through the CDR online prior approval application process for review to ensure that all information and interpretations provided in the activities is consistent with current Academy/CDR Code of Ethics.
CDR Staff will work with their programmers to have all CPE activities selected as ethics related reviewed internally, rather than by any external state review contacts. Please contact CDR with any questions by calling (800) 877-1600 x5500.
Questions? Email the Washington State Academy Office.
Remember, with the Portfolio program, attendees should receive a certificate or some other form of verification for their records.
The Commission on Dietetic Registration is pleased to announce a new feature, the Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Database, has been added to our web site. The database provides an easy way for RDs and DTRs to locate professional development activities. Individuals can search the database for listings of CDR-approved CPE activities by location, date or key word. The CPE Database can be found in the Professional Development Resource Center at http://www.cdrnet.org/applications/cpe/index.cfm. CDR will be continually updating and enhancing its web site. If you have recommendations, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. We welcome your input!
