The Greater Spokane Dietetic Association is pleased to announce that the 2017 scholarship winner, Rachel Robinson.

Rachel is a Spokane-raised graduate student at Washington State University Spokane completing her final year in the Master of Science Coordinated Program in Dietetics, Nutrition, and Exercise Physiology. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology at Western Washington University, which is where her passion for nutrition and human movement began to flourish. Outside of academia, Rachel enjoys teaching yoga classes and experimenting in the kitchen. Rachel’s passion for disease prevention and interest in acute care medical nutrition therapy has led her to pediatric and clinical dietetics. She hopes to pursue a career that combines the two once she finishes at WSU this upcoming academic year.

Congratulations Rachel! GSDA wishes you and all of the other scholarship applicants our best in your future careers in dietetics!

A note from Rachel

I am writing to thank you for offering me the 2017 Annual GSDA Scholarship. I am very grateful and happy to have been awarded this scholarship.

It has been a great and challenging last two years working on my master’s degree and working towards becoming a Registered Dietitian. Since I was a second year undergraduate student at Western Washington University, I have wanted to become a Registered Dietitian. Along the way, I have received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Movement Studies, become certified to teach yoga, and am now a month away from taking the ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist exam in order to continue following my passion in exercise and fitness. I have found a great interest in Medical Nutrition Therapy as well as the pediatric population, and I hope to pursue both of these interests as I move closer to graduation and get ready to take the RD exam.

As I prepare for my final year at WSU, it is very helpful to now have some relief in the financial burden of graduate school. I am completing my clinical rotation in the fall and this scholarship will go towards the tuition for these credits and any other textbooks I may still need to purchase.

Thank you again for your generosity and support.
