Neonatal Nutrition Fellowship Program

Baylor College of Medicine - Houston, Texas

Program date:   January 6, 2014 - March 28, 2014

Purpose: The purpose of this fellowship program is to train dietitian-nutritionists in the unique nutritional management of high-risk infants both in the hospital and the post-discharge community setting.

Qualifications: Fellows must be registered dietitians with clinical experience. A master's degree in nutrition science or public health nutrition with pediatric experience is desirable but not required. Applicants should be seeking training to enable them to acquire employment in a neonatal setting or to continue their work more effectively in the area of neonatal nutrition.

Neonatal Nutrition Update Practicum  (One week sessions)

Baylor College of Medicine - Houston, Texas

Program dates:  November 4-8, 2013
                            November 11-15, 2013
                            November 18-22, 2012   

  Purpose and Content: This program reviews the basics in nutritional support of low birth weight and premature infants. Such topics as neonatal classification, breastfeeding, neonatal nutrient requirements, nutritional assessment, and dilemmas in enteral and parenteral nutrition for premature infants are emphasized. Discussion among neonatologists and nutritionists is primarily informal. The course pivots around practical experience with premature neonates in the neonatal intensive care unit. This program serves as a time to compare and contrast the nutritional practices for rapidly growing infants in the hospital and to discuss and plan for infants' discharge into the home setting. See the sample schedule.  Registered Dietitians will receive 25 continuing professional education units for completion of this program.

Neonatal Nutrition Practicum: From Theory to Practice

Children's Hospital of Philadelphia

Practicum Highlights:  Designed for dietitians who are new to the neonatal setting, this program will focus on complete nutrition assessments and nutrition plans of care for preterm and at-risk infants; parenteral and enteral nutrition in the neonate; as well as nutrition care specific to the patient diagnoses including necrotizing enterocolitis, respiratory distress syndrome, chronic lung disease, osteopenia of prematurity, short bowel syndrome and abdominal wall defects.  The CDR has approved 26 continuing professional education credits for completion of this program.

Next available session is:   April 28-May 2, 2014 with application deadline of February 7, 2014.
