Six new professions added to HEALWA eligibility

ESB 5206, a bill which adds six new professions to HEALWA eligibility, was signed into law during the 2013 Legislative session. The result of considerable work on the part of many individuals and groups, ESB 5206, sponsored by Senator Randi Becker, (R- 2nd District Eatonville), makes evidence-based information contained in HEALWA available to Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Dietitians, Nutritionists, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Licensed Practical Nurses throughout the State of Washington.

Five of these new professions (Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Dietitians, Nutritionists, Speech-Language Pathologists) will be able to access HEALWA resources beginning in January 2014. Licensed Practical Nurses' eligibility will begin in April 2014.

This noteworthy achievement demonstrates the perceived value of HEALWA resources to health care providers who were previously unable to obtain evidence-based information to support their patient care decisions. As more licensed and credentialed healthcare professions request access to information resources, HEALWA continues to advance its mission of helping to ensure the best quality health care for the citizens of Washington State.
